Destroying My Artworks to Make New Ones.
Showing the process of how I cut up old artworks to create new ones.
I’ve had a few prints that have been sat in my online shop for a hundred years.
I love this one and I’ve had the print on my wall for a while but I felt that the time has come to upcycle it.
This is the back of the same print and I’ve drawn a few shapes very roughly so that I can cut them out and use as collage.
The pencil lines were just a guide because once you turn the shapes over, they won’t be seen and I get a lovely surprise where the image on the other side of the silhouette becomes an abstract pattern.
Here are the new paintings I made from the print cut outs….
I’ve also repurposed old original paintings that have been sat around for years.
Below is an old painting of mine on paper….
I cut it up in the same way and made new paintings from the cut out shapes…
I first painted the backgrounds with inks and fixed the collage pieces in place with diluted PVA glue. I used gouache to add the extra flowers.
I have a few unsold prints left and I might do some more of these in the future.
Wow the new art works are great -though I liked the old ones too. Very inspired!
This is so brave Jess!!!
