Texture Love
I’ve just finished a new painting on canvas and I show you the method I used to create the lovely textures.
I love different textures in a painting and with this one I’ve used a collage technique with inks on tissue paper along with collaged bits from a magazine.
Here’s the finished painting.
I coloured some tissue paper with inks to create areas of visual texture. Here they are dry, ready to be stuck down….
I’ve made a short little video showing my process of the inks on tissue paper. It’s only a minute long but it gives you an idea of what I did…
Nearing the end the painting wasn’t working for me. I loved the little fairy creature that I’d cut from a magazine and he wasn’t going anywhere so I had to make some colour and composition decisions to make it all sit comfortably (for me!)
I wanted him to look other worldly so first I tried painting cat’s ears on him but that didn’t work.
It had to be a crown!
I’m very happy how it’s all come together, I love a painting where the more you look, the more there is to discover.
What I’ve been watching/listening to:
I’m very late to the party but I’m finally watching Clarksons Farm on PRIME and I love it! I have to admit my reluctance at watching it was due to the fact I was never a fan of Jeremy Clarkson only ever having seen him on Top Gear, too competetive and blokey for me! However, I would highly recommend watching the farm series, it’s really funny and the characters he works with are endlessly entertaining! It’s a real eye opener to the farming life and I’ve learnt so much.
The podcast I’ve been enjoying recently is The Rest is Entertainment hosted by Richard Osman and Marina Hyde. It’s an insight into film and TV and the people involved in the makings. I don’t listen to every episode, just pick out the ones that interest me.
Thankyou for being here and reading my post. Do please leave a comment if you’d like to, I love hearing from you.

Gorgeous painting! I love the layers and how you used inks on tissue paper. I incorporate inks a lot but not yet on tissue paper. That is until now!
